An Almost Perfect Weekend

Great friends, great weather, great times...this weekend was the kind of weekend I use to dream about having.

Girl's Night Out

The weekend started Friday night at Emily's (aka AssMint) house with a round or two of beers and a short walk across the street for some Mexican food. It ended with me passed out on Emily's couch. In between there were games, silly questions, make-up demos, boy bashing and lots more beer.

This was a new group of girls for me to hang with and I did enjoy myself. Thanks Ladies.

Saturday is a Hashing Day

Saturday's hash took me just a few miles down the road to East Lake Park off of Memorial Drive. It was a beautiful day and in spite of the Imman Park Festival going on up the road we had a good turn out of runners for the trail.

Piggy was laying his second trail in as many weeks with a first time hare Swinger. They took us through the sewer easements and old neighborhoods surrounding East Lake. We even had a special guest appearance by 4 Inch Hole, it was great to see her out. I was taking it easy that day in preparation for my run on Sunday. I had a very nice walk/talk with Cooter Scooter and Tasty Pie. Of course we were the last ones in but you couldn't have found a hotter looking pack of DFLs. :)

The initial choice for the on-after was Mi Barrio, since I had Mexican the night before I was going to skip it and go home for the night. I was still sober and I had a big (for me) race in the morning. There was a change of plans and it was decided to head to Oakhurst and hang on the patio at U-Joint. After a few pitchers of Terrapin a plan was hatched to have a party at High Dicker's house the next day. Many drunken phone calls were made and I was assigned the duty of sending out an email to all the others.

10 pm = me asleep on the couch.

Sprint for Cancer 10K

I awoke early on Sunday (5:30 am) to get ready for the drive to Atlantic Station for my first 10K. When I signed up for this I wanted to try to break an hour. I've been running pretty consistently for the past 4 months but felt that was still pretty unrealistic. I did however surprise myself with a time of about 1:02 (still waiting on the official word). I didn't hang around for any of the post race activities.

Update: My time was 1:02:04, I finished 11th in my age group and 200th overall.

I had to make a run to the store for dog food (my poor starving boys) on my way home. I quickly took a shower, fed the boys, spent 20 minutes looking for a key that was on my key chain the entire time and headed over to Bill's house with a box of beer and bloody mary makings.

Bill had spent the morning cooking 4 pounds of bacon. In spite of the short notice we had a nice crowd. Even a surprise visit from the elusive Public Enema. Thanks to Cathy, Karen, Dan, Jill, Dave, Jim and our host Bill for a great Sunday afternoon.

I'll post some pictures of the weekend soon.

No Rest for the Weary

Tonight a few of the girls are coming over for dinner and then tomorrow night is another talk with D...maybe I can rest on Wednesday.

Another Wasted Weekend and Why the Hell is it so Cold?

Volleyball and Snow

I had been very excited to attend Bean's annual sing-a-long this past Friday night. Not that anyone wants to hear me sing but for another chance to show off my (lack of) volleyball skills. With temperatures in the 40s when I arrived it took some convincing (and beer) to get a couple of teams together. I think my team won the first round and the rest of the games where called because of snow. Yes, you heard me, snow in Atlanta in April. I seem to recall Thanksgiving it was in the 70s.

Roswell Mill

This Saturday's hash took us OTP for a chilly day in lovely downtown Roswell. Between Easter weekend and temps not expected above 50 it was a small but dedicated crowd that showed up. We had three visitors, one from Devon, Germany and Columbus, GA. They were treated to hot cider at the beginning, quite a trail in the middle and a scenic ending. We spend 45 minutes running in circles looking for trail, but most of the guys seemed to forget about it once they saw the girl in the bikini, it was cold enough she didn't have to worry about anything not being perky!

Roswell Mill Waterfall

In spite of the cold weather it was a beautiful day to be out. I had to ask myself why don't I ever visit these places any other time than a hash.

Happy Schmeaster!

I celebrated Easter in the traditional, non-church going, bitter-single woman way and got drunk. Okay not too drunk just a nice buzz. I got an early morning email from Betsy's and we got together and spent a good deal of the morning and early afternoon sitting in my back yard. Reese was there along with Betsy's friend Harris who made sure the ladies were never wanting for a mimosa. We tried to get some others to come over, Bill wanted to run (wtf??), Cathy was going to spend time with her family and Paul's cellphone must not have given him the message that we call.

Then to top off the evening I drank margaritas with Jill once she returned from Denver.

The Single Life

I guess I'm finally there. I know D and I technically broke up in January but it's been weird and of course a drunken hook-up only complicated things further. Now it is official and I don't see us turning back. I guess its all for the best. I wanted from him things he wouldn't or couldn't give me. I was tired of waiting and I'm sure he was tried of me complaining. The fate of the relationship was seal last weekend on top of Black Rock Mountain. It will be close to impossible to avoid each other but hopefully we can try to behave ourselves.

So what is a single girl to do? Catch up with a friend over a bottle (okay 3 bottles) of wine at the local hang out. I met up with my friend, Cathy, Tuesday night for dinner, 1/2 off bottles of wine and some male bashing. We learned that 2 bottles is our limit, not 3 bottles and beers at the Flat Iron afterwards. Thought the silver lining is I was so drunk, I wasn't shy about talking to anyone and I got myself a date.

First Date

Last night I had my first, first date in over 2 1/2 years. I was a wreck, still am a little, it feels like I'm doing something wrong. Sam seems nice, likes dogs (he has 4) and lives in the 'hood. He picked me up, we went to Wahoo! (of course a place D and I had talked about going to forever) and he brought me home with a promise to call the next day. We will see what happens. It is kind of nice to get that first date after D out of the way.

Of course I have to pick the TALLEST guy in the bar, he has to be at least 6'5'' (and well over 250 I would guess). We look just a bit ridiculous...

Gimpy Toby

Toby's leg seems worse today. Maybe it is just the cold weather. I'll keep an eye on him but a visit to the vet seems in order. I can't keep lugging him around.

Wasting Away

Okay not quite but I have lost over 11 pounds and over 10% body fat as of this morning. I'm not getting too excited, it goes up and down daily, but in general it is heading in the right direction. I'm beginning to notice my clothes fitting better. I'm hoping for a better bathing suit picture than the one from Lake Hartwell last year.

I set a goal to lose 15 pounds, I might have to bump that up to 20 if I can keep this up.

Black Rock Mountain

This past weekend was the annual Black Sheep/Atlanta HHH Black Rock Mountain Campout. I had been looking forward to this weekend for weeks and for the most part it was a good weekend. Not a great weekend, but good. Something just seemed to be missing this year. It seemed like a lot more people stayed in the cabins about a mile away so it was like we had two camps. Several of the regulars seemed to be missing also. Plus the weirdness factor of camping with the ex.

I took both dogs with me. It wasn't too bad, they stuck around. Toby never moved far from the fire and the pretty girls petting him. Ruben wasn't much more adventurous but he did play more with the other dogs. Plus I had lots of basset hound cuddles for the evening. I'll get pictures posted this evening.

When things go bad

Do you ever wonder how something that at one time seemed so great can go so bad? I'll admit I've made some mistakes in my life...I've made some really bad decisions and I've paid a price. Other times things 'just seem to happen'.

Things are about as bad as they can be right now...from a combination of bad decisions, bad timing and bad luck.

I don't want to say I've lost the love of my life...but I've lost someone that was very special to me.
