A Purple Haze Overcame Me this Weekend

Another 'Action Packed Weekend' making me wish for just one more day off to rest.

Three days of drinking and over 18 miles of running are almost too much for this old girl.

Friday Night

I had no plans for Friday night. In an attempt to keep my mind off my 'problems' I headed out for an 8 miles run. I figured the hour and a half it would take me to run it, plus the level of exhaustion I would be feeling when it was over would be enough to send me to bed early without much time or energy to worry about anything.

Almost half way into my run, Kay (aka Tasty Pie) and Sam pass me in their car. As I was only a few doors down from their home, I stopped by for a quick chat and a glass of water. I'm not sure who smelled worse, sweaty old me or little Sam's dirty diaper.

When I FINALLY arrived back home I had a message from one of the boys I met on Tuesday. We met up for a drink and some conversation. He seems like an interesting guy, has traveled a ton and just returned from like a 4 year trip, his father is a profession French chef, he grew up in LA (Santa Monica High), speaks French...etc. On the flip side, he has no job, no car, no education and is crashing with a friend. I don't see this going anywhere. It is just nice to be asked.

Saturday

I slept in on Saturday, not something I normally do...I think it was almost 9 am before I got out of bed. It felt good. The down side was I missed (again) my Saturday morning run in Oakhurst. I spent the rest of the morning with a few household chores and running around, shopping for the Hash.

Purple People Everywhere

Saturday's hash was a special day...Pushover 50th Birthday Hash. The birthday girl requested everyone dress in purple, she even supplied purple head scarfs for all the guests.

50+ purple clad hasher, old-timers, virgin and everyone in between descended on Candler Park around 1:30. After a few attempts at a group photo, organizing hashers is like trying to heard cats, we were off on a 5.5 miles run through in-town ATL.

I won't bore you with details of the trail it was a lot of road and the ass end of Atlanta. The looks that we normally get from bystanders are usually worth the effort of the trail. When there are 50 people, in purple, running through the streets it is priceless. After about 75 minutes I arrived at the end, a private yard on the corner of Oakdale and North. We weren't hard to miss.

Circle was a fluster cluck, everyone had something to say and several of the old-timers kept trying to take over. A surprise for the Birthday Girl was 'disrupted and mistimed' but she was still excited when her family walked into the middle of circle. It was great (pics to be posted later, thanks Kay for manning the camera while I was trying to run circle).

It was a beautiful day, people hung out until around 7 drinking and reminiscing...I headed over to the Brew House for dinner but no one else showed so I just headed home for a shower and a bite to eat.

Czarina of the SAC

Sunday morning I headed over to our bi-weekly 9 am Sunday Run. This weekend Cathy (aka 4 inch hole) was hosting. It was a small group this weekend...Little Willy showed up so I had someone to run with, my legs felt like lead and I wasn't going anywhere fast.

I finally made it back to Cathy's, ready to enjoy some breakfast and beverages...

Somehow I got a new nickname this weekend. Bwana stated calling me the Czarina of the Sunday Alcoholics Club...I kind of like it.

The boys all sat inside watching sports (golf I think) when Bwana picked up a golf club and started talking about GW I headed for the outdoors. Cathy, Debbie and I just had some girl chat and enjoyed the beautiful day.

I stuck around with Cathy chatting until we finishing off the Champagne. She offered to open another bottle, which normally I would jump out, but I was a good friend and left to give her plenty of time to get ready for her date.

After a stop at the local Ace Hardware it was back to Casa de Martha and time to mow the grass and do a little more yard work. By now my buzz had worn off and it was time for a shower, my PJs and the couch all by 7.

Just as Doctor Who was ending (yes I'm a geek) my phone rang and it was Alex...I'm always a bit perplexed by calls from him...anyway He and Bean where at The Earl having a beer and wanted me to come on up. My first instinct was to say no...but I need to change that. I need to say yes to things more often and get out. So I threw on some shorts and dried my hair. I was still back home before 10. It was an interesting evening and I got to have nachos, so it worked out.

A Day Off

Nope not from work, from running. I'm going to pick Jill up from the Airport after work and we are going to grab a bite to eat.
